Super Slim Burger Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2

    lb lean ground turkey

  • 1/4

    cup chickpeas

  • 1/4

    cup egg whites

  • 1/2

    tsp. ground garlic

  • pinch of salt

  • pinch of pepper

  • 4

    portobello mushroom caps

  • Favorite burger toppings

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1: Preheat grill. If you don’t have a grill, you can make them in a pan.
STEP 2: In a bowl, combine ground turkey, chickpeas, egg whites, garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Form 2 patties.
STEP 3: Put on the grill and cook on each side for about 5-7 minutes, depending on how thick your patties are. If you're using a pan, cook covered for about 7 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of your patties, until cooked through. Press with a spatula after flipping.
STEP 4: Form your burger with the mushrooms caps as the “bun” and add your favorite toppings. We love 1⁄4 avocado, ketchup, mustard, red onions, and leafy greens. We also love pairing this with grilled asparagus and lemon!

    They’re in the oven for about 10-14 minutes, but this depends on how thick your burger patties are. Make sure to check to see that they’re cooked through all the way! You just have to stir the chickpeas in! It gives amazing texture to the burgers :)

    1. I was just thinking the same thing. You could try aquafaba or applesauce. I can’t exactly decide what the best vegan friendly sub would be for taste.

  2. hello! for Wednesday #7dayslimdown supper meal ;slim down burger , do we eat the 2 servings (since the recipe makes two) or that extra one we keep it aside for Thursday’s lunch.

      1. Thanks! I made them just now and grilled the mushrooms. They are so delicious!! I’m gonna impress my colleagues tomorrow at lunch :)
        I made a little mistake calculating lbs to kg so they were a bit fluid. Fixed it with some arrowroot flower and they turned out pretty good. Almost nailed it :)

  7. Omgee made these as I’m doing the 5DSD and ate last night for din-din, they are the bomb! I actually forgot to add the chickpeas, but they still cooked up nicely and the flavor was still on point. Thanks for this now, go-to recipe I’ll be whipping up even after the 7DSD.

  10. I attempted to meal prep these last night (I am on the vegetarian meal plan) so my burgers have tempeh instead of turkey.
    They would not form into patties. :-( Any suggestions? Thank you!!

    1. If your tempeh won’t form patties, you can also try grilling the tempeh straight and using that as your “burger”!

  11. OMG I can’t even WAIIIIIT! #TIUhubby can’t wait either lol sooo last night I prepped the burgers so all we have to do is throw them on the grill. But I made an oops, instead of doubling the recipe for Chad and I, I quadrooped it lol soooo we have 4 in the freezer for next week lolol

  13. Anyone tried to replace the tempeh with anything that’s soy-free? I’m planning to do the burgers this week & I can’t come up with a good replacement… help a girl out, please 😂💞

  14. I made these a couple of times, love the idea but the flavour didn’t turn out great for me (made the veg version)! I’m not a very experimentative cook… does anyone have ideas to add more flavour? Herbs, spices, maybe veggie add-ins?
