Meet Your Studio Tone It Up Trainer Jillian!

We first met Jillian when we took her barre class at one of our favorite local studios and you may recognize her from our Live Barre Workout earlier this year. The community loved it so much so we knew we wanted to bring her back as a Studio Tone It Up Trainer. Jillian specializes in dance cardio, barre, and yoga. Her classes will strengthen, lengthen, and tone your beautiful bod and get your metabolism revving! You’re going to love her energy!

How did you first get into fitness?

I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old ~ tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, it was always a huge part of my life. I went to college for dance education and that’s when I started getting even more into health and nutrition. I read all the health magazines I could get my hands on! I started nourishing my body with the nutrient-packed foods it needed and I really learned what it means to be healthy inside and out.

You’re also a yoga instructor! How did you discover yoga?

I found yoga during college when I was at a dance conference. They had a yoga class there and I had never done it before! I immediately fell in love with it. As a dancer, I came into it from the physical aspect. I wanted more stretching and lengthening for my body. But when I started taking classes, I saw the mental and spiritual benefits too.

It’s a perfect day for me if I get to do both yoga and dance. They both center me in different ways. My friends growing up always called me the Energizer Bunny – go go go! Dance helps me release that energy. Yoga brings me back to earth and grounds me. Through yoga I’ve become a calmer, more patient person not only in my classes, but also as an instructor, a friend, and an LA driver ;)

Tell us about a dream you pursued!

I grew up in Ohio but I always knew in my heart I was a beach girl! I had big dreams of moving to California and being a part of the health and wellness community. I was teaching dance at a local high school and I actually sat in my classroom during my lunch breaks and watched Tone It Up videos!! I watched the behind the scenes videos and all of Karena and Katrina’s adventures and I thought, ‘This is what I want, this is what I was meant to do!’ So I packed my bags and moved to Cali about two years ago!

It’s been challenging moving away from my family and friends and starting a new life here, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. And now I’m living here, working as a trainer, and I’m a part of the amazing Tone It Up community…it’s been a dream come true!

Three things we don’t know about you – GO!

1. I’ve been an aunt since I was 10 years old and I have 7 nieces and nephews.

 2. I’m obsessed with French bulldogs! They’re active and love to snuggle…so perfect!

3. I’m a big Lady Gaga fan. I’m so inspired by her. I’ve dressed up as her for Halloween and I use one of her songs in just about every class I teach.

What can we expect from your Studio Tone It Up classes?

Lots of positive energy and booty shaking!! There’s dance of course but we’re also working on strength and flexibility. You can strengthen, lengthen, lift, and tone your total bod while taking any of my classes.

What if someone has never danced before?

Anyone can dance! It’s not about how well you dance, it’s about going for it. Come into class with an open mind and don’t judge yourself. Let go and most importantly have fun!

For me, dancing is the most fun form of cardio. And you’re going to target muscles that you don’t usually work and get your heart rate up quickly. Dancing can transform your body in ways you would never have imagined!

What does being a part of Studio Tone It Up mean to you?

It means community! When I did my first Live Barre Workout, I was so nervous but this beautiful community embraced me with open arms! I couldn’t ask for a better team to be a part of. All your checkins motivate me and I love your positivity. I can’t wait to share that with you in Studio Tone It Up! 💗

Fave color?

Pink! I think my energy is a form of pink!

What’s on your workout playlist?

Anything and everything ~ Lady Gaga for sure, The Weeknd, Katy Perry, Kanye, Jay Z, Drake, Rihanna!

What’s your go-to snack?

I love Tone It Up Protein smoothies! I make either a coffee smoothie with cold brew, almond milk, Tone It Up Protein, and peanut butter or a blueberry vanilla one with Tone It Up Protein, blueberries, almond milk, and of course peanut butter!

What’s your morning routine?

Hot water with lemon, coffee, and a workout. I usually teach in the morning and afterward I’ll have breakfast and check Instagram to see what everyone is up to!

Red, white, or rosé?

Rosé all day and red before bed ;)

Morning person or night owl?

I was a night owl growing up, but after moving to California I’ve become more of a morning person…after I’ve had my coffee! When you wake up early and get started, you feel like you have endless possibilities for the day!

Fave dance move?
