Recently, we shared Yassi’s inspiring story, and today we’re so proud to feature another Tone It Up Challenge winner: Heather! Heather is a yogi and mama to the cutest little girl! After having her daughter, she was looking for a healthy lifestyle change and new girlfriends to connect with, and she found exactly what she was looking for in this community. Now, she feels the most confident she ever has! We had the privilege of hangin’ with Heather at last year’s winners’ trip, and she radiated confidence and positivity. Tell us about yourself! What has changed for you since last year’s challenge?

Hi babes! My name is Heather. I am a mom to a 19-month-old little girl (Juniper) and a puppy (Shredder). I am a yoga instructor in Salt Lake City, Utah. The most exciting change since last year’s challenge is that I got engaged! My fiancé proposed on our trip to Kauai, and we are getting married this September! I can finally use the #TIUBride hashtag! :) I have been able to share my passion of health with so many, and I am more open to new experiences including traveling!

How did the Tone It Up Nutrition Plan contribute to your success?

The Nutrition Plan was the KEY to my success. I have been a vegetarian for 9 years and have always thought of myself as a pretty “healthy eater,” but after having my daughter I was not fueling myself properly. I was not eating ENOUGH throughout the day to support breastfeeding and my active lifestyle. The Nutrition Plan lays everything out for you: it tells you what to eat and when to eat. Meal prep Sundays are a must in my routine now!

What originally inspired you to make a change in your life?

Getting pregnant and having my daughter made me look at my body in a whole new way and truly appreciate what it could do for me. After seeing my body go through so many amazing changes I realized I needed to shift my mindset this time around. I needed to really take care of my body, give it the fuel it needs and the love it deserves. This is the message I want to pass on to my daughter: we eat healthy and exercise because we LOVE our bodies.

How did you maintain your progress?

I focus on eating clean 90% of the time and staying active every day. I love going on walks with my daughter around the lake. She also loves doing yoga, jump squats, and pushups with me! I love getting her involved in a healthy lifestyle; she is my biggest motivation. Winter time is hard in Utah to get out a lot so we have frequent dance parties — you can check it out on my Instagram stories!

What did coming to California for last year’s winners’ trip mean to you?

Having the opportunity to meet the women that have inspired you for so long is seriously life changing. It is empowering to be able to share my story and be able to connect with so many amazing women around the world! There was a time in my life when I didn’t have any close friends at all. Now I have an entire community I can go to! I have the confidence to be myself and I have found so much joy in making new friends. Meeting the TIUHQ was so amazing to see how everyone truly enjoyed what they were doing and really believe in the entire TIUteam. I am going after my dreams so I can inspire and make a difference in the world. I am beyond grateful I got to spend the weekend with Stephanie, Kelsy, Yassi, Lora, Lily, and Chelsea. They are so genuine and I love that we are all still friends! #TIUSquad! The love and support we have for each other is unlike anything I’ve ever had.

What advice would you give someone who needs encouragement to get healthier?

Consistency is key. Small healthy changes really add up in the end. You want this to be a lifestyle, not a quick fix.

Fave workout?

Beach Babe 3 is my absolute favorite. I also loved the new Body Love workouts! They were challenging and so fun. And of course any booty workout — I have finally seen huge progress since taking Kat’s advice to work your booty 3 times a week!

What are your go-to Tone It Up Nutrition Plan meals and snacks?

I love the Lemon Honey Overnight Oats and the lavender muffins. The Fall in Love Kale Salad is my go-to and the Tray Dinners are so easy and versatile.

  1. I love this story! Mine is similar; I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter and a wedding coming up in June. I’ve always loved running and yoga, but my muscle tone has never been what I wanted it to be, so I hope to improve upon that with the workouts provided here. Thanks for sharing!
