Tropical Paradise Smoothie + Tips For Gorgeous Food Pics

We flex, then we fuel!

How strong do your arms feel after today's #TIUFlexFriday upper bod workout?! SO. MUCH. SCULPTING. We mixed this smoothie up to pair perfectly with the workout. We always make sure to have protein 30 minutes after our sweat sesh to help form beautiful lean muscle. Our plant-based, gluten-free coconut Tone It Up Protein is perf with this tropical combo. You're going to feel totally energized and satisfied after this dreamy smoothie bowl. It's also packed with antioxidants to keep your skin bright and fab!

We used a few tricks to make our bowls extra pretty for their Insta closeup! ; ) These are so simple and turn out gorgeous! Try them out and you'll be food styling and snapping pics like a total pro!

Top it off

You can also use a small spoon or toothpick to make a swirl with coconut cream! Coconut flakes and chia seeds on top are really pretty and delish too!

Set the stage

When it comes to pics, let the food be the star! We like to take our pictures on a simple background like a white countertop so the food really shines. For this shot, we decorated with some mango from the recipe and flowers we had at the HQ. Simple & pretty!

Lighting is EVERYTHING

Natural light will help you capture the most beautiful photos. Our favorite places to take pics are outside in the shade or inside by a window. Try to avoid using a flash or harsh indoor lighting if you can. The magic time for taking pics ~ morning light or dusk! This gives your photos a gorgeous luminous look.

Our No. 1 editing trick

When you take pictures in natural lighting, you won't need to make major alterations or go crazy with filters. We sometimes make small adjustments to the brightness and saturation to bring out the image's natural beauty. We love using the app VSCO!  It adds a soft, beautiful effect to photos and makes the colors really pop. If your pic looks a little dull or fuzzy, you can try bringing up the brightness, saturation, contrast, or sharpness a little bit in VSCO or even Instagram. And the temperature tool is so helpful too! If your photo has a lot of yellow tones, try bringing the temperature down to give it a softer look.

Your pics are going to be looking like a masterpiece!! 🎨📸

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2

    cup coconut water

  • 1

    scoop coconut Tone It Up Protein

  • 1/4

    cup frozen mango

  • 1/2

    frozen banana

  • 1/4

    cup papaya

  • 1

    Tbsp. macadamia nuts

  • plus optional toppings!

DIRECTIONS

STEP 1: Blend the smoothie ingredients until smooth.
STEP 2: Optional toppings: Swirl coconut cream for a pretty design! You can also add 2-3 other toppings: 1 Tbsp. unsweetened coconut flakes, 2 tsp. chia seeds, your favorite fruit, 2 tsp. cacao nibs.

  1. I love that this smoothie bowl have all the tropical fruits I love especially papaya & mangoes! Frozen blueberries & raspberries are kinda expensive in Asia. I usually make mine with mangoes, pineapple, coconut meat, moringga or spinach. Hi from the Philippines!

    1. You could try unsweetened plain Greek yogurt or a tablespoon of natural PB. I alternate between protein from food and the Target TIU vanilla since I’m also making muffins with it.

    1. I’d love some more travel/food tips, too. I have a couple trips coming up, and I always struggle with food when I’m away from home.

  9. On days when I need an extra boost of caffeine I blend together cold coffee (or iced cubes of coffee), almond milk, 1/2 banana, cacao powder, vanilla protein powder, and 1/4 avocado. It’s absolutely the best! I made this yesterday and topped it with peanut powder, cacao nibs, and chia seeds :)

  14. My favorite is the Blueberry Cauliflower Smoothie minus the Cauliflower and the Orange Dreamsicle. I tried the Cauliflower once and I could still taste it and I do not like the after taste. It really didn’t add any more creaminess to my smoothie that the frozen fruit didn’t already do. I did try it though so I get points for trying, right? ;)

  15. I´m still into the Banana breakfast bowl. I use frozen spinach, banana, vanilla protein and almond or soya milk. So simple, so yummy. Topping is always whats in the cabinet :)
