Spicy Señorita Margarita!

Happy Cinco De Mayo, beach babes!! This has been our favorite tequila based drink lately and we are in LOVE with it. It's totally TIU Nutrition Plan approved and will wow all of your friends and family. Even though this uses jalapeños, its spice level is surprisingly mild! If you want a little extra kick, leave that jalapeño in your drink after you've shaken it!

2 servings

  • 1

    large grapefruit

  • 1

  • 1

    tsp. honey

  • 2

    oz. tequila

  • 1

    oz. Triple Sec or Cointreau

  • ice

  • salt to garnish

STEP 1: First, slice and juice the grapefruit. Stir the honey into the grapefruit juice until well combined. Next, chop the jalapeño into small pieces.
STEP 2: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour the grapefruit juice, jalapeño, tequila and triple sec (or Cointreau) into the shaker. Seal the shaker with it's cap and shake for at least 10-15 seconds.
STEP 3: Once you've finished shaking, rim two glasses with salt. Add in a little extra ice to each glass and split the margarita from the shaker into the two glasses. Top with a jalapeño slice and enjoy!

This drink is a perfect alternative to the pre-made margarita mixes that are filled with sugar and preservatives! Plus, it's so easy to put together and tastes AMAZE.

  1. Grapefruit margaritas were one of our signature cocktails at our wedding, they are my favorite! I will definitely be making these tomorrow! Thanks K & K!

  2. Two other delicious TIU approved tequila cocktails I like to drink:

    1. Coconut Watermelon Marg
    • 1 shot tequila
    • 2-3oz watermelon juice (I get fresh squeezed at my grocery store)
    • roughly 6oz (or to taste) of Coconut La Croix
    • lime juice to taste

    2. Grapefruit Marg
    • 1 shot tequila
    • 2-3oz grapefruit juice (fresh-squeezed)
    • roughly 6oz (or to taste) of either Lime La Croix or Grapfeuit La Croix
    • lime

I don’t add sweeter because I don like sugary drinks (also the watermelon juic is pretty sweet), but feel free to add in some honey like the TIU recipie!

  3. I’m not a fan of grapefruit. Is there another similar fruit I could use. I’m obsessed with margaritas!
