Wedding Photos, Planning, Decor & MORE!
It’s Wedding Season!! A wedding is one of the most special things you can celebrate~ not only with the love of your life, but with your family, friends and your closest girlfriends. If you’re getting married, or helping a friend plan~ remember, this only happens once. It is a time to enjoy the details, the planning, the special moments together and the celebration. For every girlfriend you help, they will in turn make your day amazing too.
The moment I truly realized why people have weddings was on the dance floor during my first dance with Brian… I looked around and saw every person that has been a significant part of our lives, all in one place to celebrate our love– and I knew it would never happen again. That was the only moment I cried (okay, maybe the second). It really hit me. A wedding is one of the most meaningful celebrations of your life, and the tradition means a lot to family and friends. People traveled so far and made a lot of effort to be there.
Here are a couple photos of that moment…
I’ve been releasing our wedding photos a little bit at a time, because as all of my brides know… after months of planning, then having the wedding, the honeymoon and then back-to-work, it takes a while to get back into the groove and organize all of the photos! I’m finally going through all of my pics and video footage~ it’s so much fun to relive the day.
I’ll be sharing my wedding photos soon, and today I have a fun surprise!!! Our wedding was featured in INSIDE WEDDINGS ~ it’s called Summer Lovin’ :) The best part? Kelcy at INSIDE WEDDINGS happens to be part of the Tone It Up Team and she was the one who interviewed us!
Make sure you pick up the issue to read the interview and see more photos. We went into a lot of detail about how the day came together. Below are a few featured photos, a video of how we decided on the decor, and some of our planning pics!
Our wedding took place in Malibu, California. It started with a Rehearsal Beach Day with a picnic, music, drinks and fun in the sun. The wedding took place at two venues. The ceremony was on a bluff overlooking the ocean (the same place as the Rehearsal Beach Day). For the reception, we went to the vineyards about 15 minutes away at Malibu Family Wines. It was the perfect combination of our two passions ~ the beach & wine! ;)
Look who took a selfie with the issue!! My grandma took a photo on her 92nd birthday (two nights ago) with the issue :) She’s really happy she was able to come to the wedding in California~ it meant the world to me! She was even the star of the dance floor! Go grandma!
There are so many things I love about this photo… my grandma dancing, her little sandals, the look on my brother’s face, Karena’s arms straight up in the air cheering her on~~ there are no words ♡
I’ll be sharing more photos and videos from the wedding, but for now, take a look at our decor planning!! Here’s a video we shot in the midst of planning! We had an amazing time with every detail :)
In this VIDEO: Thank you to my amazing friend and designer Kim Colladay from Alley Couture for not only making our wedding come to life, but for putting so much heart into every detail with us. We had so many adventures together!! Thank you to my coordinator Constance for all of the planning, the love and of course the laughs along the way :) My photographer Jana Williams and videographer Tim & Co ~ you’re the absolute best! The most beautiful flowers by Aly ~ I still swoon over dahlias and Juliet roses! And of course, thank you to my parents, my brother and Karena for being in this video, for helping with every decision along the way and for just being there for us!! We love you :)
All of our Wedding vendors are listed below. If any of you are getting married or helping a girlfriend plan, I recommend everyone below! They’re my friends and even if they live far from you, they may have some advice for you. They’re all so passionate about what they do~ they just want you to have the most incredible day.
Planning began with me collecting things around my house and sending photos to Kim and Constance to explain my style and vision for the day. We wanted it all to feel like our home and for our guests to feel like it was ‘us.’ Here are a few of the collages I sent Kim!!
I started collecting pink depression glass for votives and accents ~ there’s so much of it on Etsy! Kim helped find these beautiful center pieces which were all unique. We wanted each table to be a little different. We also collected coral and barnacles :)
These items were at our lemonade table. The little lemon bin was the piece that Karena gave us for our engagement party!! We wrote Pink Lemonade on it :) The beautiful cabinet, cart, french glasses & details were rentals from Alley Couture.
This is the collage I sent to Kim and Constance. We originally thought I would get ready in a tent, but then I decided to just get ready on a bluff overlooking the ocean ~ who needs privacy!? Buff on the bluff! Kim and I found this vanity at a vintage fair (and carried it about 3 miles in the 90 degree weather!) I bought a vanity instead of renting one~ I wanted to keep it after and as a bonus, it was the same price! It’s now in our bedroom with jewelry and wedding pictures. It’s gorgeous!
My inspiration for the wedding colors came from my grandmother’s paintings (my mom’s mom). She was so talented! That’s when I started matching the peachy pink depression glass to the paintings to add another splash of color to the wedding. You’ll see the paintings at the wedding :)
I found these peachy champagne flutes on Etsy! I wanted something beachy and elegant while getting hair and make-up ready with the girls. They’re also in my house now and we use them for fun girl’s night occasions.
Chairs, cushions and MORE! Kim has so many beautiful chairs in her Alley Couture inventory. She also found this beautiful chaise lounge that we covered with a pinky peach silk. We spent a day searching for fabrics and paint colors for benches and furniture so that everything flowed together from the beach to the vineyard. I kept 6 chairs and a couple benches for our home after the wedding ;)
When searching for centerpieces and decor, I wanted all the tables to look unique. I shopped for peach glass vases, seaglass vases, dried coral and silver accents. Kim had a bunch of milk glass and clear bottles so they went perfectly. Eventually this is what our house looked like…. for months!!! Sorry Brian…
For bridesmaids dresses, I matched the colors to all the varying shades of seaglass bottles. There were 7 different hues and each with a unique style :) I did a whole post on my bridesmaids and their dresses HERE! Our neightbor and friend Kirstie Kelly who designed them gives ToneItUp Brides & Bridesmaids 15% off :) Her codes are TIUbride15 & TIUmaids20!
☀ A photo from our rehearsal beach day ☀
This is at her bridal salon down the street from us! Karena and Sarah tried on their dresses for the first time ~~ and I put on my friend Ingrid’s dress :) We always had champagne no matter what we were celebrating~ the decor meeting, making invites, creating tables arrangements, dress shopping… it all deserved a little bubbly!!
As you saw in the video ~ Brian decided to build our alter!! We couldn’t find anything for the beach that we loved that was elegant, but beachy. He picked up some wood and started building. Like most of our DIY painting, we used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It’s the best! We use it to paint signs, windows, tables, furniture in our home and even chandeliers.
We ended up with an alter on our roof…
My mom and I went on so many wedding planning adventures together. This was one of the most memorable~ at the ceremony spot :) It was perfect for the Rehearsal Beach Day too!
I was searching for signs for the wedding and I couldn’t find anything that went with our vibe, so Kim found these beautiful windows for me to write on!! I brought in some of the design inspiration from our invites by Zenadia Designs. I used white glass pens and I drew our menu (huge money saver on menus!- we just put the window in front of the buffet table on an easel), signs for the ceremony, cocktail hour, the bars, dessert table, gift table, favor table and the entrance to the dance floor~ Let’s Eat, Drink and Be Married! My mom and Brian made the direction sign with all of the places that everyone traveled from. We used chalk paint and wood pieces from home depot~ $15! When wedding planning… you love every bit of savings!
Kim, Contstance, Jana, Karena and Brian were all on the hunt for vintage & beachy decor for the reception! Recognize this sofa?? ;)
About 5 days before the wedding (oops) we painted our table and chandelier for our sweetheart table from Kim. It’s now above our bed :) Side note: we highly recommend a sweetheart table at the wedding! We loved it because it was the only hour that we really got to spend just the two of us to take in the moment and our wedding. We listened to speeches, drank some champagne and then the rest of the night we danced with everyone! It was really nice to have that time together. Most of you know that if you’re hosting any ‘party’ you are pulled in a lot of different directions and you barely see your significant other. This happens a lot with weddings, so a sweetheart table is really nice idea.
Can you believe these transformations!? It was hysterical picking out vintage furniture with Kim. We were searching for the perfect stool for the vanity and found this rundown seat. She refinished it beautifully!! I use it everytime I get ready to go out now! Below are our invites by Zenadia Designs. I’ll be sharing more photos, but these were a lot more fun to put together than we thought! Brian constructed the whole invite to be a little booklet for our guests. A weekend of Love, Wine & Sunshine <3
Here is a shot of us scouting out the beach for the Rehearsal Beach Day… yes, I went up and down those stairs with my dress on for beach pics!! I went barefoot though. Another amazing part of this was the quality time I spent with my mom :) The week before the wedding, we made her wedding album!!! She was never able to make it, so we finished it and put it on the welcome table at the wedding along with framed pictures of my grandparents and Brian’s parents and family. It meant a lot to my grandma to see her wedding photos as you entered the cocktail hour.
For the table assignments, we created individual messages in a bottle. Each guest found their name on a glass bottle and pulled out the scroll to see where they were sitting! I think I had this planned for about 10 years, haha. I also snuck my mermaid in there! Our favorite rental from Alley Couture was the Kissing Booth… everyone had so much fun in it! Maybe too much fun after seeing the pics ;)
Below are photos from last minute meetings and decor~ special champagne glasses for our sweetheart table, the aisle made by MOM, Constance picking up last minute mermaids and coral (oh yes we did) and the boys packing up the Alley Couture storage unit!
The alter ended up in our living room…
AND, what’s a wedding decor post without some WEDDING DECOR FAILS!?
Here are a few things that didn’t exactly go according to plan… below is our guest book that I ordered on Etsy!!! Palm to forehead… we scrambled last minuted and made our kissing booth the guest book instead!
The smallest pink depression glass ‘cake plate’ EVER… we ended up putting a candle on it.
Brian’s hair buzzer BROKE the morning we left for our welcome dinner. He was not happy- I of course thought it was hysterical and had to take a pic.
And finally~ our wedding favors!!! They were SO late and finally arrived the day before we left. We planned on gifting everyone wine glasses at the vineyard that said in white lettering “Brian & Katrina, Malibu California” with a white sand dollar on the top. Instead they sent 120 Happy 25th Wedding Anniversary glasses. We kept 20 for our 25th wedding anniversary party ;)
A BIG thanks to our friends and family for being there every step of the way. Looking back~ it really is the most amazing time that we can celebrate each other.
For all my TIUbrides that have been asking!! Here are my vendors! Don’t hesitate to reach out to them if you have any questions about planning or decor! They’re all friends of mine and would be so excited to help with your big day! Jana (photo), Kim (decor) and Kirstie (gowns) do weddings all over too.
Thank you to all of these people for making our day come together~ each of you extended way above and beyond to make it the best day of our lives!! Forever Grateful~
