Meet Your Studio Tone It Up Trainer Kristina
Kristina has been a friend for years and we’re so thrilled you’ll be getting to know her more in the Studio! She brings so much energy, positivity, and heart to this community! And her workouts…☺️ 💦 we’ve been shooting new HIIT and kickboxing routines with her this week and the BURN IS REAL 🔥
I met Kristina years ago when I was a trainer at Boston Sports Club and her husband actually went to college with Brian and Bobby. When we met, she was in the fashion industry but she decided to follow her true passion and get into fitness professionally about six years ago. She followed her heart and she never looked back! We’ve seen Kristina grow so much as a trainer and we’re so incredibly proud of her!
In her journey, she’s gone from someone who couldn’t run the mile in school to a marathoner. From working the front desk at the gym to teaching her first class with no notice. And now she’s a top trainer! Her motto is, “with drive and a dream, you are capable of anything” and that embodies everything Tone It Up is about.
We’re so excited for you to get to know Kristina even more! Take Kristina’s new Cardio Core Toner class in the Studio today HERE! And read on below to hear more from our girl!
Learn more about Kristina!
How did you first fall in love with fitness?
When I was about 16 my mom took me to the gym for the first time to a cycling class. I wasn’t the most coordinated kid and I didn’t do contact sports but I loved the feeling of being a part of a team at the gym.
I was so inspired by the instructor and I remember telling my mom, “I want to be her when I grow up!” I didn’t know when or how or even if I was going to get into the fitness industry, but I just remember leaving that class feeling so inspired and happy!
Did you have an experience that changed your perspective on fitness?
I grew up with a heart condition. I was diagnosed when I was 8 and I had a lot of fainting episodes. I couldn’t run the mile in school and it was so awkward and uncomfortable to be the girl in elementary school watching everyone run and sitting back. I was a dancer and a cheerleader and the coach always had to look out to make sure I didn’t overextend myself. I felt like my condition held me back from the things I wanted to do.
Later when my boyfriend, now husband, was traveling a lot for work, I was looking for an activity to do after work. I started going for little run/walks. That turned into 5Ks and then 10Ks. Easing myself into running actually made my heart stronger! Now I’ve done 14 half marathons and 2 full marathons and I haven’t had an episode in a year! The thing I wasn’t allowed to do ended up helping me naturally!
That experience inspired me to get into the fitness industry. I want to help you reach all your goals! Because I know how good it feels when something doesn’t seem possible and then you create it yourself through focus, drive, and a dream.
You actually started your career in fashion! How did you follow your dreams and transition into fitness?
I was in the fashion industry until about 5 or 6 years ago and I just knew it wasn’t what I was meant to do. About 6 years ago I was at a wedding with you two and you actually inspired me to follow my passion and I haven’t looked back since!
I’ll never forget this~ a guest at the wedding come up to you and thanked you for the Tone It Up workouts on YouTube and shared how much they meant to her. I thought, “I want that, I want to be able to inspire people that way.”
Shortly after that, I quit my job and I started working at the front desk at 2 gyms. I was telling everyone I wanted to teach! Finally, a sub didn’t show up and the fitness manager asked if I wanted to step in for that night!
Wow, that night?!
YES! I had no playlist, no clothes, I wasn’t even certified yet! But I had to seize the opportunity! My husband left work early and brought me clothes. One of the other trainers gave me a playlist. It had explicit rap and I’m like this ex-cheerleader with a sparkly headband 🙈 And THAT was my first class!
After that, I was on a high. I got certified in indoor cycling and became an instructor at Fly Wheel and then later Equinox. Now I teach group spin, HIIT, and treadmill interval classes and I love every second of it!
What’s your No. 1 passion in health and wellness?
Delivering a positive message. I never want anyone to come into my class and think that something isn’t in their wheelhouse. My motto is with drive and a dream anything is possible! Anyone who takes my class I want you to know that you are capable of anything as long as you set your mind to it!
Three things we don’t know about you – GO!
1. I used to sing the National Anthem at football, basketball, and soccer games in college. I still sing in the shower ;)
2. My husband Mike and I have been together for 13 years now. We’ve lived in 4 states together. We met the second day of freshman orientation and I called my mom and said I met the guy. I just knew right away!
3. We have 2 cats. We got one in Chicago and one showed up on our doorstep in California and we brought her with us to New York. We named her Dori like the fish because she found us!
What can we expect from your Studio Tone It Up classes?
You can always expect to sweat with a smile! You will be uplifted and inspired~ and you’ll get your booty kicked! There’s something amazing about getting a really great workout physically and having a positive experience mentally that will carry you through your day and I’m so excited to share that with you in the Studio!
Rapid fire questions!
What’s on your workout playlist?
I love a good remix! Today I had a remix of Destiny’s Child Jumpin’ Jumpin’ and Jason Derulo’s Swalla. Anything I hear on the radio but a fresh take on it.
What’s your morning routine?
Rise ’n sweat! I usually go straight to the studio to teach. If I’m not teaching a class, I go for a run or do yoga. I like to move in the morning because it sets the tone for the rest of the day.
What do you always carry in your bag?
Lipgloss, gum, and an iPod because I’m always afraid if I’m in a studio someone is going to ask me to teach and I won’t have a playlist like my first class!
Red, white, or rosé?
If you could live anywhere else in the world where would it be?
My husband and I have always wanted to try living in Australia. If we could spend some time there knowing we’d move back to New York, it’s definitely a bucket list thing!
Biggest girl crush?
Blake Lively~ she’s beautiful, talented, and she seems like a great mom and wife!
Beach or ski trip?
Beach definitely. I’m not that great at skiing. Anyone can be good at the beach 😉☀️
