Welcome to my home!! I’m really excited to give you a full tour of our new place in Manhattan Beach, CA! Bobby and I have had a ton of fun decorating and taking on DIY projects together. Kat and I love to get creative in any way we can, and spending time decorating our living space is a great way to express our artistic side while creating a special environment! Bobby and I have learned how to combine our two eclectic styles to make a cozy industrial beach home with a modern rustic twist.

Here are of my 5 top decor tips to create your special space! Watch the video for more :)

Pops of color ~ Our friend and interior designer Kim from Alley Couture told me this tip a few years ago: choose 2-3 accent colors throughout your home. For our new place Bobby and I decided to keep the furniture and colors muted, using mostly grays, browns and creams with accents of dark blue and teal. You’ll see pops of color in the art on the walls, unique furniture pieces, pillows, tiles, and even the painted kitchen cabinets.

Grab a paint brush ~ Painting walls and cabinets around your house can be a fun weekend project… and a bonus workout! It can also change the entire look of a room, without breaking the bank! Choose a fun color for an accent wall or paint old cabinets with a fresh coat to brighten a room. We kept the original cabinets in the kitchen and painted them with two-toned colors along with a unique vintage finish on the lower cabinets (and I was able to sneak in some teal!) You can find tutorial videos online on how to create vintage or unique washes on your cabinets. We also painted the bathroom cabinets in super white to brighten the room.

Finding inspiration ~ When coming up with ideas, I like to turn to Pinterest for inspiration. I also love to create a home decor board to keep all my inspiration in one place. Before Bobby and I moved in together we created separate boards for each room of the house. We each pinned our favorite styles and this really helped us figure out how to combine both our visions. We also pulled photos from our favorite home design magazines and browsed design sites like Houzz.com.

Light it up! ~ One easy way to really mix things up is with lighting. Finding cool, rare, and ornamental sconces, lamps or chandeliers can make a huge difference in the space and really light up a room ;) From your dining room to bedroom or bathroom and even a closet, a chic light can create the vibe you’re looking for. We found our lights from local shops around Manhattan Beach, Etsy, Restoration Hardware Outlet, Ebay (Bobby loves his Ebay antique finds!), Pottery Barn, and on design site Fab.com.

cool_lighting.jpgMix old and new ~ There’s something unique and special about finding hidden vintage gems at local flea markets, shops and online that can seamlessly be mixed with new pieces. It really gives each room character. One of my favorite antique pieces in the house is a headboard that Kim from Alley Couture found at an antique shop. It was a complete mess when we found it, but with a fresh coat of paint and new fabric we were able to bring it back to life!
