How To Refresh Your Beauty Routine For Fall
Hey gorgeous!! Now that it’s officially fall, that means we’re kicking off the 31 Day Challenge MONDAY, prepping all the pumpkin treats and cozy crockpot meals in your 31 Day Meal Plan, aaaand switching up our beauty routine for the new season! Every season is an opportunity for a lil’ refresh! Today we’re sharing the best fall beauty tips from some of our favorite pros!
Refresh Your Skincare Routine
We asked Jessica Wu M.D., Los Angeles dermatologist and author of Feed Your Face, her top tips!
Exfoliate! “After a hot, humid summer of wearing sunscreen, I recommend exfoliating 2-3 times a week,” says Dr. Wu. “This will help keep pores unclogged, and remove dead, dry skin flakes that are left over from any sunburns.” Your arms and legs may be more covered up when the weather gets cooler, but make sure to show them plenty of love! “Use you favorite body scrub in the shower on your elbows, knees, and heels, followed by a rich body oil or body butter.”
Remember the SPF. Even though there’s less sun and it’s cooler outside, it’s essential that you still protect your gorgeous skin. “Remember to apply sunscreen on any exposed areas when you exercise outdoors,” explains Jessica. “Protect your chest, hands, front and sides of your neck (and back of your neck if you wear your hair up)!”
Switch up your moisturizer. Since fall tends to be a cooler, dryer time of the year, you definitely want to switch up your daily moisturizer to one that’s a bit heavier and more nourishing. “If you have oilier skin, look for a lightweight serum with hyaluronic acid to add moisture without greasiness.” And if you have normal to dry skin, Jessica recommends that you use a richer cream, “especially on your cheeks, which have fewer oil glands than the T-zone.”
Hydrate your lips. Keep those lips soft and kissable! 💋 “Many of my patients (whether they have oily, dry, or combination skin) get dry, chapped lips as the weather gets cooler, says Jessica. “Rub in a thin layer of lip ointment before wearing lip color, and apply a thick layer at bedtime.”
Refresh Your Hair Look
When it comes to hair I, of course, went straight to my colorist & stylist Abby.
Try a fall hair trend. “For fall, a bronde color is a great choice!” Abby says. “A warm color will always keep you looking young and glowing!”
And if you want to try a small refresh, Abby recommends a face-framing highlight for blondes! “Nothing too heavy of a highlight around the crown or part.” This will let your natural hair color grow out, creating depth and actually putting you on a low maintenance schedule (saving some money and time in the salon!) For brunettes, she recommends going one to two shades deeper than your natural base color. “Nothing too extreme ~ sometimes just adding a little warmth will do the trick!”
Strengthen your locks. Abby loves using products that will smooth and strengthen the hair. “I love Kerastase Resistance resurfacing strengthening milk.” Don’t have time for a full blow out? Just apply your favorite serum onto your hair so that “the hair doesn’t get too brittle, which results in breakage.”
Refresh Your Makeup
Our girlfriend & makeup artist Ashley is sharing her best advice for fall!
Try out some new lipstick and eyeliner shades! “Lipstick can change your whole look instantly,” Ashley says. “If you want a more subtle change, using a burgundy or deep blue eyeliner (instead of the typical black or brown) is also a great way to add a new element without having to purchase all new products.” I also love adding warmer colors into the crease of my smoky eye looks!
Try a deep red lip. Karena loves a bold red lip for fall! Ashley recommends trying a red lip as a really quick way to change up your look! We have a tutorial for you here! Red not your thing? I love a warm neutral color that works for all seasons. You can see my fave look in my tutorial here! The most important thing is to experiment and find what best expresses YOU in the new season!
