How To Keep Your Skin Glowing & Gorgeous on the Fly!

Katrina and I have been flying around the country coming to see YOU for the Tone It Up Tour and we’re having the best time. This experience is everything we dreamed of and more!

With all the travel, we’ve become total pros at navigating airports and flights. We’re actually writing this from the air! Workin’ on the fly…literally ;)

Before we left for the Tour, we called up some experts to get their best advice on how to keep your skin healthy and hydrated while traveling. We want to look and feel our best for you ;) We’ve been living by these tips the past couple weeks and we picked up a few of our own along the way! Try these dos and don’ts on your next trip…trust us they’ll rock your world and you’ll be feeling so fly when you get off that plane!

Safe travels babe and we’ll see you soon ✈️

DO drink up

Every TIU girls knows to hydrate…and then hydrate some more! And that’s especially important while you’re traveling. “Airplane air has very low humidity and is very dehydrating, which is why we become thirsty during long flights,” says Dr. Blanka Orloff M.D., owner of SkinMatrix in Burbank, California. “This causes dry skin to become even drier and lines to become more visible.” We recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day and more when you’re flying. We pack our Tone It Up Water Bottle in our carryon and always have CORE on hand too!

DO moisturize

“Flying can cause your skin to stress,” says board-certified dermatologist S. Manjula Jegasothy, M.D., CEO and Founder of the Miami Skin Institute.  “Keep your skin clean, well-exfoliated, and properly hydrated.”  Dr. Jegasothy suggests applying a light moisturizer a few hours before, during, and after your flight to keep skin from drying out.

DON’T forget the SPF

Did you know you can get a sunburn inside the plane? UV rays are more intense at higher altitudes and they can come through the plane windows. And don’t forget about pre-flight rays. “Many airports have large, open windows allowing extra UV light to reach your skin,” says Dr. Orloff. We always carry a travel-size sunscreen like this one from COOLA. It’s made with moisturizing cucumber and it’s the perfect size for a carryon!

 DO pamper your eyes

Airport pampering with Yes To Cucumbers 2-Step Eye Kit

It banishes dark circles like magic! Thanks Penny! 💗

DO use an alcohol-free hand sanitizer

Alcohol dries out your skin so Dr. Jegasothy recommends using an alcohol-free hand sanitizer to keep your hands clean & hydrated. We like this travel-friendly version from Babyganics!

DO skip the salty snacks

Foods high in sodium can can cause your face to swell during a flight. Hydrating fruits and veggies and Lean, Clean, ‘N Green treats like Tone It Up Protein mini muffins are the perfect plane snacks. We travel with our TIU approved goodies in an insulated bag. Meal prep is EVERYTHING when we’re on the road!

DO wash, wash, & wash again

As soon as you step off the plane, wash your hands with soap to get off any germs or bacteria. Right after that, scrub your face with a light, exfoliating wash to remove any oil and dead skin cell buildup, says Dr. Jegasothy.

DON’T forget your Booty Call!

Exercise increases blood circulation, which brings oxygen and nutrients to your skin. We got in a little booty werkk at the airport on the way to Seattle yesterday…15 lunges on each leg and 60-second wall sits. We did get some serious side eye 🙈

  1. Definitely saving these ideas for later! I wish I would be had these a few months ago when I had a 9 hour flight(talk about dehydrated)🙊Thanks K&K 😁

  2. OMG… The man in the purple polo with the major side-eye! LOL! I think we’ve all gotten those “looks,” in public when we’re just trying to get some squats in! Amiright?! xoxo

  3. This is perfect timing as I’m leaving for Cancun in 3 weeks and the flight is 51/2 hrs long. Thanks for this.

I’m loving that rose gold Luggage, oh were 🙏🏻can I find that?

Also what about the muffins, how long to they last in the insulated bag? and do you put anything in there with them to keep them cold?

    1. Hi babe! It’s from Calpak! And the muffins usually last a few days in an insulated bag. Have the BEST time in Cancun! xxo

  4. You ladies read my mind! Headed to Portugal on Sunday and want to look and feel my best walking off that plane! Thanks so much for this!!

  5. Love this! Any Recommendations on other easy meal prep options? Also, do you have a post on workouts that don’t require equipment for traveling?? 17 hour flight coming up!

  6. This is perfect since I fly a few times a year from Israel to Chicago!! I’ll use these tips on my next trip for the TIU Tour!!! 🙌🏼💖👯

  7. Tips on point! 👍🏼thank you, Kat I love you carry-on!!🌴☀️🌊Where is it from?

  8. Great tips! I have to add Mineral Fusion Hydration Mist to this list as well. I travel often and always have to have it with me. With just a few sprays in flight, my face is hydrated and refreshed. I’ve even used it on my hands and legs when they were dry while traveling in the mountains. You can get it online or at Whole Foods in the Whole Body section!
